PDA launch “Safer Pharmacies Charter”

The PDA has produced a charter of seven commitments to improve safety and care for patients. It appeals for improved staffing arrangements and working conditions for pharmacists which will enhance patient safety considerations in UK pharmacy practice. This charter defines basic standards to ensure safe practice wherever pharmacists work.

Derecognition of the BPA – PDAU meet with Boots

Concerns over proposed PSNI premises standards – which include provision for MUR targeting

The PDA has responded to the PSNI's consultation on draft new premises standards for registered pharmacies, saying that they appear to be a significant retrograde step and expressing concerns that the PSNI may be following in the GPhC's footsteps in its approach to pharmacy premises regulation. The standards provide for MUR targeting by employers, calling the number of MURs a "patient outcome" - which was challenged by the PDA.

Central Arbitration Committee (CAC) issue decision on application to derecognise the BPA at Boots

The public body that has statutory powers to resolve workplace disputes in Britain has published their full decision on an application that a secret ballot should be held to determine whether the bargaining arrangements between the BPA and Boots Management Services Limited should be ended.

Putting our learning into your practice

Following many requests from primary care and GP Practice based pharmacists, the PDA, working in partnership with MORPh a specialist primary care pharmacy training provider has successfully launched a series of training events which have been designed to support practitioners in these specific areas and which are now being delivered across the whole of the UK.

Press Release: Boots pharmacists pass first hurdle to getting an independent voice at work

The Central Arbitration Committee (CAC) has today issued its decision to accept the application from Boots Pharmacists to end an agreement between Boots and the Boots Pharmacists Association in order to clear the way for independent trade union, PDA Union, to seek recognition for the thousands of pharmacists who work for the company.

Update on announcement on 190 Lloyds branches

PDA Union members at Lloyds are understandably concerned about the potential for their branch to close or be "divested" by the company (sold as a going concern to another owner). PDA are already hearing from some of these members and answering their queries.
