VACCINATIONS: All vaccinations delivered by suitably trained pharmacists have always been covered by indemnity insurance as part of the standard PDA membership apart from Covid-19. For new membership renewals after January 1st, 2026, Covid-19 vaccinations are now also automatically covered.

    A BBC Inside Out documentary, including a lead feature on the death of a patient in community pharmacy and the company’s subsequent interactions with his family, was broadcast on BBC One on their HD channel and in some regions on their standard channel on Monday 8 October 2018.

    The Pharmacy Show took place at the NEC in Birmingham on 7th & 8th October 2018. The team were delighted to see so many PDA members. We also introduced ourselves to many new faces over the course of the two day show. As well as assisting with membership queries, we promoted the Safer Pharmacies Charter and the Wider than Medicines strategy.

    The dental sector provides a good exemplar of how skill mix has been developed to support the work of the dentist, to widen the scope of the service and ultimately to improve the service to patients. Six types of dental technicians have been registered by the General Dental Council (GDC). 

  • NHS England release information about their Integrated Care Systems Pilot

    NHS England has released a briefing document about their plans to integrate Pharmacy and Medicines Optimisation into Sustainability & Transformation Partnerships and Integrated Care Systems (STPs and ICS). One of the key concepts is the need for professional leadership to develop a shared plan on the use of medicines together with all relevant stakeholder organisations and to develop the roles of all individuals involved in medicines optimisation within STP or ICS areas. 

  • CAC agree bargaining unit for PDA Union Recognition

    Following a hearing on Friday 28th September, the CAC has today issued its decision on which pharmacists will be eligible to vote in a ballot to decide whether they can negotiate their pay, hours and holiday through the PDA Union. The PDA Union will only be able to negotiate for better employment terms for this group of employees should they win the ballot. 

  • PDA respond to GPhC’s consultation on safer online pharmacy services

    The GPhC have proposed that online pharmacies will have to put in place new safeguards to protect people who want to obtain medicines online, including opiates, antibiotics, asthma inhalers and Botox.

  • Well Pharmacy: Hepatitis B immunisation

    It has been brought to the PDA’s attention that some employees of Well Pharmacy may have been asked to start providing flu vaccinations despite not having been immunised to protect against Hepatitis B. We understand there is currently a national shortage of Hepatitis B Vaccine in the UK. 

  • PDA report suggests action on grandparenting and educational standards of pharmacy technicians is required

    The PDA have released the third chapter of their pharmacy technicians report which shows that although 73% of pharmacy technicians on the 2017 GPhC register were admitted through grandparenting arrangements, the GPhC does not hold records of what assessments were conducted by the RPSGB as to the suitability of the qualifications of individual pharmacy technicians during the grandparenting process.
