VACCINATIONS: All vaccinations delivered by suitably trained pharmacists have always been covered by indemnity insurance as part of the standard PDA membership apart from Covid-19. For new membership renewals after January 1st, 2026, Covid-19 vaccinations are now also automatically covered.

    The PDA is urging all candidates who sat the June 2022 assessment and feel that they have grounds to appeal on receipt of their results to review the GPhC guidance and gather all evidence before taking action. 

  • NHS pay award England, Wales, and Northern Ireland fails to address the cost of living crisis

    For pharmacists, the NHS pay award falls below even the headline increase of 4.5%. Paul Moloney, PDA Union National Officer looks at the pay award announced on 18 July which applies to PDA members working in the NHS in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland. The Scottish government had previously announced a proposed 5% increase in Scotland.

    The PDA have joined over with 100 organisations including charities, trade unions and others to sign the Disability Employment Charter, a document that provides government with a road map for change as it develops the next phases of its National Disability Strategy.

  • PDA publish open letter demanding action on patient safety concerns around pharmacy closures

    The PDA have published an open letter, that has been sent to Government Health Secretaries, Chief Executives of the National Health Service, NHS Chief Pharmaceutical Officers and Chief Executive of Pharmacy Regulators across the UK, demanding urgent action to prevent unnecessary pharmacy closures 

  • Locums report being told to reduce agreed shift rates or be cancelled.

    One of the largest pharmacy chains in the UK, and a leading member of the Company Chemists Association, has been contacting some locum pharmacists to demand they either accept lower rates for work they have already contracted with the company, or the shift will be cancelled. It seems the company has simultaneously told thousands of their social media followers that a national shortage of pharmacists is causing them to close pharmacies. 

  • Urgent alert for online prescribing pharmacists working in the private sector

    The PDA has previously cautioned pharmacist prescribers who work for online pharmacies about the specific risks associated with remote prescribing using a questionnaire-based model, typically with no direct prescriber/patient interaction. This is a further urgent alert.
